Virgin sucks. Don’t read into that

By Ann in Personal, Question

Note: This will probably only be relevant to residents of the UK. If you’re not, then I’ll leave you with the information that I survived my dance class today, without embarrassing myself again. It was pretty fun, actually.

So, recently I found out that I’m spending around £10 a month on my mobile, almost exclusively on texting my friends. Because I’m a Scrooge at heart, this is an unacceptable expense – oh, and I don’t want to be grouped in with the girls who spend an insane amount on their phones because they’re so “popular” *snort*. Conclusion: Virgin Pay As You Go is out, something else is in. Except… I’m not sure what.

I’ve looked around a bit (okay, blatant lie. I’ve complained to my friends that I’m spending too much money on my phone and they’ve told me what they have) and one I’m currently digging is Orange – Dolphin Pay As You Go. If you top up with £10 you get unlimited Edit: 300 – thanks Emz! free texts for that month (enough, I’m sure), plus free internet access to Facebook and some other places (great! My phone isn’t exactly an internet-browsing one, but I’m that addicted to the internet I don’t care), so I’d use the free texts for that month, and the £10 on texts for the next month… working out to be around £5 a month instead. Not bad eh?

However, I am aware that there are people out there, my uncle being one of them, who are so into the whole money-saving-get-as-much-as-you-can-free thing that companies practically pay them to use their products, I’m sure. I thought I’d ask you guys what network plan you were on, because I’m nosey. And if I can do better than £5 a month, then I’m so for it.

I’m on the Orange Dolphin plan on PAYG and just so you know to get unlimited texts you have to top up by £30. £10 will get you 300 free texts and £20 will get you 600 texts. But if you are only spending £10 a month right now anyway 300 texts will probably be enough.

The free internet is handy! I’ve always had a ‘Internet-friendly’ (as I call it) phone so it’s handy not having to pay for using it. (I do use it daily!).

I’ve been thinking of switching away from Orange though, their service seems to be starting to lack in some respects and everyone I know is on, or moving to O2! I don’t know, I like what I’m on. :-)

I say as long aas yu can tal on your phone, it shouldn’t matter which one you have. I recently brought the Sprint Instinct, not because it looked cool but I that is what I wanted.

I don’t have a cellphone. Saves me tons of money :D (It’s pretty much at least $30/month here for a basic plan.)

However, I’m pretty sure that if you use your phone a lot (in your case, a lot of texts) a plan can be a lot cheaper than PAYG.

I’m with Virgin Mobile Canada, and they are WAY better than any other company I’ve been with. I pay 23$ a month and get unlimited Internet and MSN, and 100 texts. With everyone else I’ve paid 40$-ish for that. :P
