It’s a good excuse not to revise Chemistry

By Ann in Personal

Although I absolutely love the fact that the days are getting steadily warmer, the sun is shining most of the time and I can walk around with bare feet without my toes feeling like they’ll drop off, there is one thing I absolutely hate about this time of year. Spiders. They’re waking up everywhere, and absolutely love my house. Now I’m not scared of tiny spiders, or the ones with short legs that you can easily get away from, but what I hate are the huge ones with massive legs that look like they could outrun you to crawl up your leg and kill you, and I will run screaming if I see a large one.

What makes it slightly more difficult is that I am a firm believer in only killing the very largest of large spiders, since I have enough common sense left in my after seeing a medium-sized or small one to realise that it probably could not choke me should it wish to crawl into my mouth, and that it probably also does not have a gun up its ass, and its legs can’t fit around my neck to strangle me… or something, and therefore I have no real reason to kill it. However, I certainly am not going to go near it, nor is my sister or my mother if my dad is around, and for all he likes to pretend is incredibly brave and butch, is actually a real wimp when it comes to spiders too. Catching spiders alive is sometimes a complicated process.

Last night I had the misfortune to spot a ginormous spider with the longest legs ever navigating its way around my Maths folder lying on the floor, on top of my Chemistry file. So far revision consists of staring at a few pages from my file then chucking it on the floor. Anyway, this spider was absolutely huge and disgusting and I had no objection to removing it from the face of the earth, so I yelled for my parents (it was between my bed and the door), and had my dad come up and smoosh it with his slipper, while I lay cowering inside my hoodie on the bed. There were legs everywhere.

I now have a brown stain on my carpet, and spider juice smeared on my Chemistry folder. That’s how big it was. It’s a fairly noticeable stain, too, about 1.5 cm long, and 0.5 wide. So now every time I look at my carpet and… no, I’m not going near my Chemistry file for a long time, I think, I’ll be reminded of the sight of two long legs poking their way over the side of my Maths file, and heaving a long, large brown body up over my work.

At least it didn’t disappear into my bed, or crawl up my leg… but those are different stories :P

Have you ever had the pleasure of being reminded of an event every time you see a stain on something?

Whoo, are the spiders really that huge? We have the small tiny ones in the bathroom once in a while but I have never seen huge ones before. Sounds like spiders love your room. :P Anyway, it’s a good excuse though.

I don’t believe in killing spiders just because I don’t like them (I hate spiders of every kind, big or small. I even hate bugs and other creepy crawlies). So I get my dad to take them outside in a glass. And that way there are no messy stains either ^^ Though I agree that is definitly the best excuse not to revise chemistry.

I’ve been seeing lots of spiders lately, and I just ignore them. I don’t think any of them are as big as the one your dad had to squish, though!

Any excuse not to study, right? ;)

I too have a complete fear of spiders. I do not care if they are big, small, hair, or hairless. I do not like them. And personally, the one you just described would probably have sent me into cardiac arrest. Fortunately you were able to get back up (ie. your father); as for myself I would have been to terrorized to even scream for help! Just thinking of it is giving me chills, you poor brave soul.

But now I am rambaling… I just wanted to say thanks for the comment. I have fixed the error about the still posted link. As soon as I am able to I will have the reviews section back. I would love if you came back some time to check on it and tell me what you think. :)
