Just a short post detailing the most important points of the day, since I have more pressing University stuff to blog about. Also, I really need to finish the next layout before I go on holiday next week.
Much shorter train journey to Cambridge than to Oxford (one hour instead of two) and only had to catch the train from a nearby town rather than London. Train journey was rather nice too, I sat opposite a gorgeous boy, then to realise I was sitting next to his girlfriend. Still, they were rather endearing to watch together until they began engaging in over the top PDA.
It was too hot to walk all the way into town so we were directed by Open Day guides at the station1 to the bus. We found the Computer Science information stand and talked to some students, which was utterly boring and didn’t tell me anything new, so we made our way to the Music one, meeting up with a friend from school who had also seen all the really clever boys from over the wall. How encouraging. At the Music stand I spoke to a professor and a first-year student who were really encouraging; the professor said I sounded just like the sort of person who would enjoy Music at Cambridge. I told the girl I couldn’t decide between CompSci and Music, and she said she had a friend who was doing CompSci and did more (practical) music than she did.
After lunch, we went back to hear about the Music course, and watch a mock interview. It was really interesting, and all the way through I was thinking “I want to study this” or “I can answer that”. How unhelpful. We were then shown around the place, but that wasn’t especially fascinating.
So as you can see, it didn’t really help me choose between CompSci or Music since each time because at each open day I wanted to do both. Since Thursday, I have decided what my plan is, and provisionally where I want to go, though school’s not happy with it. That, however, is another post.
- they were swarming everywhere in their yellow T-shirts, as were the crowds of prospective students; it was like a hugely cringey town event. Oh wait. [↩]
